Gwangju Bank Holds Traditional Market Shopping Event for Chuseok

Leading the Revitalization of the Local Economy

Gwangju Bank Holds Traditional Market Shopping Event for Chuseok

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Bank (President Song Jong-wook) announced on the 28th that it held a traditional market shopping event at Daein Market in Dong-gu to celebrate the Chuseok holiday.

Every year before the holidays, Gwangju Bank conducts market tour events with local children, providing a fun economic learning experience for children accustomed to large supermarkets, while also leading efforts to revitalize local traditional markets.

However, this Chuseok, due to the spread of COVID-19, the event was held with a small number of children, and for those who could not participate, the event’s progress was recorded on video so that the children could experience it later through the footage.

Employees and children from Gwangju Bank who participated in this Chuseok shopping event had a meaningful time touring the traditional market, purchasing items directly, and experiencing both fun and economic learning simultaneously while making payments.

In particular, about 20 university student ambassadors from Gwangju Bank also purchased shopping items requested by group homes on their behalf.

Song Jong-wook, President of Gwangju Bank, shopped with the children for Chuseok and met with market merchants who are struggling due to economic recession and a decrease in customers to listen to their difficulties.

He also delivered Onnuri gift certificates worth 10 million won to local single-parent families and group homes facing economic hardships.

President Song Jong-wook said, “I hope this event became a source of strength for local residents, especially the socially marginalized groups who are going through a more difficult time than ever due to the impact of COVID-19, and also served as an opportunity to revive the vitality of traditional markets. Gwangju Bank will continue to take the lead in social contribution activities and financial support to revitalize the local economy and spread a culture of sharing, fulfilling its role as a representative bank of Gwangju and Jeonnam.”
