[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Dr. Park Sung-joo (31), a graduate of the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at Dongmyung University (President Jeong Hong-seop), obtained his full-time Ph.D. degree from the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at Inha University in February 2020 and was appointed as an assistant professor at Dongmyung University in the second semester of 2020 during his postdoctoral course.
Professor Park Sung-joo enrolled in the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering (Class of 2008) and advanced to graduate school at Inha University through the 3+3 graduate program, earning both his master's and doctoral degrees.
He specializes in ship and offshore plant material failure, fracture prediction, and damage analysis in major accidents, having published six SCI-level papers and six papers in KCI-registered journals during his full-time Ph.D. period.
Recognized for his research through the 2015 Excellent Paper Award in the Materials Field and the 2019 Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Award, he was newly appointed as a tenure-track full-time assistant professor in the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at his alma mater, Dongmyung University.
Professor Park said, "I hope Dongmyung University juniors take pride in studying at a university with an excellent educational environment."
He also stated, "As a senior alumnus, I will strive to share my experience and knowledge with juniors out of a sense of duty and nurture outstanding talents who surpass their teachers through the teacher-student companionship."
