[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] The Democratic Party of Korea has decided to establish a special committee to investigate the shooting death incident involving North Korean soldiers and to prevent recurrence, and will begin fact-finding efforts.

Lee Nak-yeon, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 28th, "Regarding the incident in which our civilians were shot dead in North Korean waters, we have decided to establish a special committee within the party for joint investigation and prevention of recurrence," adding, "We will focus on uncovering the truth of this incident."

Addressing the People Power Party, Lee said, "The conservative opposition party started with old political attacks and provocative street protests before clarifying key facts such as whether the person defected to the North," emphasizing, "We will respond to these distorted behaviors and prepare future-oriented measures for joint inter-Korean investigation and prevention of recurrence." The special committee chairpersons will be Hwang Hee, the Defense Committee secretary, and General Kim Byung-joo.

Meanwhile, Lee stated, "I would like to publicly make a new request to the Ethics Inspection Team," and added, "Please also begin investigations into issues of multiple home ownership and misconduct involving key party officials, including party members of the National Assembly, local councilors, and elected public officials."

He continued, "After the Ethics Inspection Team, newly established after the party convention, began investigations, one member of the National Assembly was expelled and another voluntarily withdrew. It was resolved in that manner," and said, "Through these efforts, the Democratic Party will raise its ethical standards and work to regain the trust of the people."

Regarding the party leader’s directly affiliated Economic Advisory Council launched that day, he said, "We have appointed Assemblyman Kim Jin-pyo, who has experience in fiscal finance industries and macro/microeconomics, as chairman," adding, "Businesses will restore entrepreneurial spirit, and we will consistently pursue the Fair Economy 3 Acts."
