[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 27th that it launched the 'Gwangju-Jeonnam Integration Preparation Team' on the 25th, consisting of a total of 15 members including the Deputy Mayor as the head, 6 public officials, and 9 advisory members from civic groups, academia, and experts.

The Administrative Integration Preparation Team will support the formation of consensus among city and provincial residents, the collection of citizen opinions, and extensive discussions with local communities such as the council and political circles as discussions on city-province integration become more active.

In addition, the team will establish implementation plans (roadmaps) by field and stage for city-province integration, conduct research on domestic and international integration cases, the necessity and basic concept of Gwangju-Jeonnam administrative integration, and the promotion system to support active public discourse.

Furthermore, before preparing for metropolitan administrative integration, the team plans to invite integration experts from Daegu-Gyeongbuk to hold special lectures and support integration discussions with city and provincial residents through media and civic group forums and study meetings.

Kim Jong-hyo, Deputy Mayor and head of the Administrative Integration Preparation Team, said, “The metropolitanization of local governments is a demand of the times and a global trend, but in our case, forming a general consensus among city and provincial residents is most important.” He added, “Through the Gwangju-Jeonnam Integration Preparation Team, we will closely cooperate with the council, civic groups, local communities, and Jeonnam Province to advance the discussions.”
