Chuseok Holiday Sees Expressway Rest Areas Transforming into 'Takeout Stores'... Outdoor Social Distancing Alert

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] The Ulsan-Pohang Expressway Pohang-bound Oedong Rest Area, managed by Korea Expressway Corporation, announced on the 27th that it has installed partitions on outdoor tables outside the building to prevent community transmission of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

Following the installation of transparent partitions on indoor restaurant tables, the Oedong Rest Area explained that these facilities were installed as a social distancing measure in preparation for a surge in visitors during the Chuseok holiday.

A rest area official stated, "Since indoor food consumption will be prohibited during the Chuseok holiday and only 'takeout' sales will be allowed, we are preparing for many visitors eating outdoors at the rest area," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure that customers strictly maintain a 2-meter distance from each other."

Meanwhile, from September 29 to October 4, a six-day period covering the Chuseok holiday, all expressway rest areas managed by Korea Expressway Corporation will prohibit the operation of indoor seating in stores. Accordingly, only packaged sales (takeout) will be allowed at rest areas.
