Governor Lee Cheol-woo Requests 'Special Subsidy' from Representative Lee Nak-yeon Visiting Yeongdeok, Gyeongbuk

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, on the 26th, requested Lee Nak-yeon, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who visited the typhoon damage site in Yeongdeok, to support special grants for prompt recovery.

Yeongdeok-gun suffered significant damage from consecutive typhoons, including 96 houses (1 completely destroyed, 14 half-destroyed, 81 flooded), 596.1 hectares of crops, 29 vessels, and 500 livestock. Public facilities damage was recorded as 11 roads, 3 rivers, 30 small-scale facilities, and 7 fishing ports.

At the damage recovery site in Haepalang Park, Governor Lee Cheol-woo said, "Due to consecutive disasters such as heavy rain and typhoons, local government expenses of 88.8 billion KRW are required for damage recovery alone, causing severe difficulties due to deteriorating local financial capacity," and requested, "Please support 20 billion KRW in special grants for swift typhoon damage recovery."

In response, Leader Lee Nak-yeon said, "Although the area has been declared a special disaster zone and certain support funds are being executed, it may not be sufficient," promising additional support through discussions.

Meanwhile, this typhoon, characterized more by strong winds than rainfall, caused severe damage to private coastal facilities (such as houses) and port and fishing port facilities along the East Coast due to coastal flooding. In particular, housing damage in Gyeongbuk Province totaled 397 houses (13 completely destroyed, 68 half-destroyed, 316 flooded), resulting in 421 households and 767 displaced persons.

The total private facility damage in Gyeongbuk Province includes 397 houses, 12,120 hectares of crops, 87 vessels, and 2,622 livestock. Public facility damage includes 94 roads, 78 rivers, 145 small rivers, 311 small-scale facilities, 73 port and fishing port facilities, and 163 forest sites.
