Hong Jun-pyo: "The President's Neglect of Duty Should Be Questioned Through Current Affairs Inquiry... Opposition Should Not Settle for Solo Protests"

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Former Liberty Korea Party leader Hong Joon-pyo emphasized the need for a special inquiry in the National Assembly plenary session regarding the Yeonpyeong Island shooting incident, stating, "The National Assembly plenary session's urgent inquiry is a place to question the president's dereliction of duty."

On the 27th, Hong said on Facebook, "The Democratic Party of Korea is backing out with the logic that there is no need for an urgent inquiry in the plenary session because the recent killing and burning incident of our citizens was handled in the standing committee."

He explained, "The National Assembly standing committee is a place to question the relevant minister's dereliction and neglect of duty, while the plenary session is a place to question the prime minister, acting on behalf of the president, about the president's dereliction and neglect of duty. The president is not exempt from responsibility just because the standing committee pursued accountability. Therefore, an urgent inquiry in the National Assembly plenary session is necessary."

Hong criticized, "The opposition should not settle for one-person protests in front of the Blue House but should strongly fight by putting the regular National Assembly schedule on the line," adding, "Both the South and North Korean regimes are mere puppets, and the North and South are being manipulated by the tongue of National Intelligence Service Director Park Jie-won."

He questioned, "If our country's citizens are killed and even burned, and we just accept it with a single apology, is this a nation? Is the Republic of Korea such a country?"

Meanwhile, on the same day, the People Power Party held a 'One-person protest demanding a thorough investigation into North Korea's atrocity of killing our citizens' in front of the Blue House fountain from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., led by floor leader Joo Ho-young, deputy floor leader Kim Seong-won, and other party leaders.
