County Governor Jeon Chang-geol Proposes 10 Billion Won Budget for Wave Overtopping Measures from Uljin Port to Gongseok Port
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] On the 26th, Lee Nak-yeon, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, visited Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk, which was declared a special disaster area due to typhoon damage.
According to Uljin-gun, at 11 a.m. that day, Lee checked the restoration status of houses at Uljin Port in Yeonji-ri, Uljin-eup, where wave damage was severe, and directly listened to the difficulties of residents in the flooded areas. This is Lee’s third visit to Uljin-gun, including two visits during his time as Prime Minister.
Uljin-gun, which experienced typhoons "Maysak" and "Haishen" in early September with up to 66mm of heavy rain per hour, suffered damage across the county including public facilities (115 locations), houses (66 households), and agricultural and fisheries sectors (156 locations). Considering the damage amounting to 15.3 billion KRW at that time, the government declared Uljin-gun a special disaster area on the 15th.
Jeon Chan-geol, the county governor who was present at the site, requested 10 billion KRW in harbor countermeasure funds for wave damage from Uljin Port to Gongseok Port, and Lee responded, "We will actively consider installing breakwaters to prevent damage."
