"An, Claims in 2017 to Reveal 'Park's 7 Hours on Sewol Ferry'"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 25th, the People’s Party criticized Roh Woong-rae, a Supreme Council Member of the Democratic Party of Korea, for saying, “Has Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, ever asked former President Park Geun-hye to explain the 7 hours?” calling it “a remark that makes one doubt his qualifications as a Supreme Council Member” and expressing “regret over the reckless remarks.”
Hong Kyung-hee, Senior Deputy Spokesperson of the People’s Party, said in a statement that day, “Even amid a nationwide outrage over North Korea’s brutal atrocities, Roh, who cannot distinguish friend from foe and cannot utter a word against North Korea, instead disparages the opposition leader’s call for a fact-finding investigation as a political offensive. What kind of lawmaker is he from which country?”
Senior Deputy Spokesperson Hong clarified, “Roh’s claim is completely untrue,” emphasizing, “On March 23, 2017, after the Sewol ferry was raised, Leader Ahn insisted that former President Park’s ‘7 hours during the Sewol ferry incident’ must be revealed.” She added, “Contrary to Roh’s claim that no one spoke up, Leader Ahn loudly asserted this. Since evidence has been presented, we hope he will now stop making a fuss and remain silent.”
Hong also stated, “Our party is not immersed in political offensives. Nor do we demand the president’s whereabouts be revealed without any reason,” explaining, “We criticize our government for wasting the golden time that could have been saved if the president had shown strong will, resulting in the loss of precious lives. In this regard, Leader Ahn used the analogy of the ‘7 hours during the Sewol ferry incident.’”
