As a mid-range flagship model focusing on camera and battery, its price is expected to be around 890,000 KRW, approximately 350,000 KRW cheaper than the Galaxy S20 (around 1.24 million KRW).

Samsung Electronics will officially launch the Galaxy S20 FE in South Korea in mid-October. The Galaxy S20 FE, unveiled on the 23rd, is a new product reflecting the preferences of Galaxy fans, featuring a lowered price, a 6.5-inch flat display, a large-capacity battery, and a triple camera setup.

The domestic retail price is reported to be around 890,000 KRW. In the United States, where pre-orders have started, the retail price is set at $699 (approximately 820,000 KRW), and considering this price does not include taxes, the domestic price is likely to be set under 900,000 KRW. In the U.S., customers who pre-order the Galaxy S20 FE receive a $70 (approximately 80,000 KRW) discount coupon for accessories.

Comparison with Galaxy S20... Larger Battery, Comparable Camera

The Galaxy S20 FE's screen size is 6.5 inches, which is between the Galaxy S20 (6.2 inches) and S20+ (6.7 inches). The edge display is completely removed, featuring a flat screen. The screen refresh rate is 120Hz, the same as the Galaxy S20. The dimensions of the S20 FE are 74.5 x 159.8 x 8.4 mm, with a slightly shorter height and thicker body compared to the Galaxy S20 (69.1 x 151.7 x 7.9 mm). It weighs 190g, which is 27g heavier than the Galaxy S20 (163g).

The battery capacity is 4500mAh, 500mAh larger than the Galaxy S20's 4000mAh. The RAM is 6GB, lower than the Galaxy S20's 12GB, but the memory is the same at 128GB. Both models support 25W super-fast charging. The Galaxy S20 FE charges from 0% to 50% in less than 30 minutes. The AP determining the device's performance is the same Snapdragon 865 as in the Galaxy S20.

The front camera of the Galaxy S20 FE (32MP) is superior to that of the Galaxy S20 (10MP). Although the rear camera specs are lower than the Galaxy S20, it features the largest image sensor ever used in a Galaxy smartphone. The Galaxy S20 FE's rear camera setup includes a 12MP main lens (F1.8), a 12MP ultra-wide lens (F2.2), and an 8MP telephoto lens (F2.4), forming a triple camera system. The Galaxy S20 is equipped with a 64MP telephoto lens (F2.0), a 12MP wide-angle lens (F1.8), and a 12MP ultra-wide lens (F2.2). The 'Space Zoom' feature, supporting up to 30x digital and 3x optical zoom, is also included, identical to the Galaxy S20. Features such as Single Take mode, which simultaneously captures video and photos to recommend the best shot, and Super Steady mode, which stabilizes dynamic scenes, are supported.

Annual Releases Under the New 'FE' Brand

The Galaxy S20 FE reflects Samsung Electronics' strategic judgment that it is difficult to compete with only high-end flagship models after COVID-19. Apple targeted budget-conscious consumers during product gaps with the affordable 'iPhone SE,' and Samsung responded by quickly planning and developing a product with a premium brand at a lower price point.

Samsung Electronics plans to release the 'Fan Edition (FE)' annually, which offers lower specs and prices than high-end flagship products. Previously released under the name 'Lite,' the naming has been unified to 'FE' to present a new lineup. These products target the mid-range flagship market with AP and camera features that are better than the A series but more affordable than the Galaxy S or Note series.
