Trump to Nominate Supreme Court Candidate at White House on 25th
Ginsburg Lies in State at Congress...First Woman and Jew
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Donald Trump, President of the United States, is reportedly likely to nominate Amy Coney Barrett, a judge of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, as the successor to Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a U.S. Supreme Court Justice who recently passed away, CNN reported on the 25th (local time).
CNN cited multiple senior Republican sources for this report. The sources explained that while there is always a possibility that President Trump might change his mind at the last moment before the official announcement, Barrett is expected to be chosen.
President Trump is scheduled to officially announce the Supreme Court nominee at the White House on the afternoon of the 26th.
Judge Barrett has been considered the most likely successor since Ginsburg's death. A devout Catholic, Barrett is known for her conservative stance opposing abortion. She was also reportedly among the final candidates when President Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court Justice in 2018.
Along with Judge Barrett, Barbara Lagoa of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and Allison Jones Rushing of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals are also mentioned as strong candidates.

Meanwhile, amid intense political conflict in the U.S. over the nomination of the new Supreme Court Justice, Ginsburg's body was moved to the U.S. Capitol from the Supreme Court on the same day and laid in repose.
The ceremony held that morning was attended by Ginsburg’s son and daughter, other family members, key congressional figures including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his wife, paying tribute to the late Justice.
It is considered the highest honor for public officials and military personnel to be officially laid in repose at the U.S. Capitol so that the public can pay their respects. Justice Ginsburg was the first woman and the first Jewish person to be officially laid in repose at the U.S. Capitol.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, "It is a great honor to welcome Justice Ginsburg’s official repose at the U.S. Capitol," expressing "deep sorrow and sympathy to her family" and wishing "that she may rest in peace." Justice Ginsburg is scheduled to be interred at Arlington National Cemetery next week.
