40 Million Won Raised in Donation Campaign Over the Past Month
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 25th that it provided a total of 40 million won in cash, 100,000 won per household, to 400 households affected by the heavy rain disaster.
The support fund was raised through a donation campaign conducted for about a month from August 24 to the 18th of this month.
To ensure fairness in selecting beneficiaries, the county set the first round of support amounts based on the damage ratio by eup and myeon among households registered in the National Disaster Management System (NDMS). In the second round, the final beneficiaries were selected by eup and myeon considering disaster index, property, and living conditions. The target residents were finalized on the 17th after review by the Gyeongsangnam-do branch of the Korean Red Cross.
When Geochang-gun was declared a special disaster area, a dedicated account was opened at the Korean Red Cross exclusively for Geochang-gun, ensuring that all donated funds would be used for the residents of Geochang-gun.
Gu In-mo, the mayor of Geochang-gun, expressed, "I would like to once again thank the volunteers who spared no effort in the swift recovery, the donors who visited to contribute funds asking to help those more in need despite their own hardships, and the heads of various organizations nationwide who rushed to support Geochang."
