[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] As medical students have expressed their intention to take the medical licensing examination (Korean Medical Licensing Examination, KMLE) practical test, the government reaffirmed on the 25th its previous stance that additional review is difficult.

Son Young-rae, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Welfare, stated at a regular briefing held at the Government Seoul Office, "The government's position regarding medical students retaking the KMLE remains unchanged."

The government said that due to issues of fairness, simply expressing the intention to take the exam does not grant an additional testing opportunity.

Spokesperson Son said, "Providing additional opportunities raises concerns about fairness and equity with other national examinations."

He added, "Many citizens perceive (an additional exam) as an unfair special privilege," and "Without public understanding and acceptance, it is difficult to consider additional testing."
