Prime Minister Jeong: "Choo's Special Quarantine... One-Week Ban on Gatherings at Entertainment Venues Outside the Capital Area" (Update) Prime Minister Jeong Sye-kyun

[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun stated on the 25th regarding the special quarantine measures for the Chuseok holiday, "In the metropolitan area, quarantine rules for places expected to be frequently visited by people staying at home, such as restaurants, amusement parks, and movie theaters, will be further strengthened," and added, "Outside the metropolitan area, a minimum one-week ban on gatherings will be implemented for entertainment facilities likely to be visited by those returning to their hometowns or traveling."

Prime Minister Chung made these remarks during the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters (CDSCH) meeting on COVID-19 response held at the Government Seoul Office that day, saying, "Today, we will discuss the quarantine measures to be applied during the special quarantine period for the Chuseok holiday."

He emphasized, "This measure focuses on securing the effectiveness of quarantine," and noted, "Rather than uniformly applying social distancing levels, we have carefully considered the seasonal characteristics of Chuseok and regional conditions."

Regarding the incident in which a missing public official from Yeonpyeongdo was shot and killed by the North Korean side, Prime Minister Chung expressed, "First, I offer my condolences to the deceased and extend my deepest sympathies to the bereaved family," and stated, "We strongly condemn the atrocity against our unarmed citizen and urge the North Korean authorities to provide a responsible response and take appropriate measures."

He added, "There is no value more precious than protecting the lives and safety of our people."

In conclusion, Prime Minister Chung said, "The number of influenza patients in the second quarter this year was about 180,000, a significant decrease of about one million compared to the same period last year," and explained, "The dominant analysis is that this is the result of properly following personal hygiene rules such as wearing masks and washing hands due to COVID-19. Wearing masks and washing hands are the best vaccines not only against COVID-19 but also against influenza."
