[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong stated on the 25th regarding North Korea's shooting incident involving a missing public official from Yeonpyeong Island, "If you only care about watching the tragic death of the people and defending North Korea's position, then whose president and military are you?" He added, "The people are asking with a desperate heart why the state, the president, and the military even exist."

At a breakfast meeting with party-affiliated city and provincial governors held at the National Assembly that day, Governor Won said, "Above all, it is very regrettable that there is a rush to defend North Korea while damaging the honor of the deceased victims and their families," and urged, "The government should take special note of this."

Governor Won emphasized, "This time, we must respond firmly," and stated, "We must obtain not only a public apology from North Korea but also punishment for those responsible, and a promise that provocations threatening the lives and safety of South Korean citizens will never happen again."

Governor Won said, "President Moon and the military must apologize to the people," and added, "They must also declare that if such provocations occur again, they will respond strongly."
