[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Seul-gi] Ji Seong-ho, a member of the People Power Party originally from North Korea, criticized on the 24th, saying, "I am horrified by the barbaric behavior of the North Korean regime."

On the same day, Ji posted on his Facebook, stating, "North Korea's human rights violations are not only happening inside North Korea but are now reaching out to our people as well."

He added, "Following the 2008 shooting incident of the late Park Wang-ja, this time they have directly harmed a government official," expressing concern that "while President Moon Jae-in was reiterating the declaration of the end of the Korean War in his keynote speech at the UN General Assembly, inhumane actions were being carried out."

He continued, "Is the response to our overtures the execution of our citizens?" and raised his voice, saying, "The government must properly raise its voice against the human rights violations occurring every hour in North Korea to prevent such incidents."

He criticized, "The repeated occurrence of such incidents is because the Minister of Unification emphasizes only inter-Korean cooperation while putting human rights issues aside," and added, "The government's submissive and low-profile response is increasing the public's security anxiety."

Earlier that day, on Soyeonpyeongdo Island, a missing South Korean government official was shot by a North Korean military patrol boat in North Korean waters. Military authorities have confirmed that North Korea also burned the official's body at sea.
