Preemptive Measures to Prevent Further Spread on 24, 25, and 28th... Intensive Crackdown by 118 Staff Including 10 On-Site Inspection Team Members

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) is mobilizing a special inspection team of 118 employees on the 24th-25th and 28th to conduct an all-out effort to check compliance with assembly restriction orders and quarantine rules targeting multi-level marketing, sponsorship visits, and door-to-door sales companies located in buildings around Teheran-ro (Gangnam Station to Seolleung Station).

This special inspection is a preemptive measure to prevent further spread of COVID-19 infections in the area where recent cluster infections occurred. Two special inspection teams consisting of 36 employees will conduct inspections on each floor of buildings from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the 24th-25th and 28th.

Any company or business found violating the administrative order of "indoor gatherings of 50 or more people prohibited" will be immediately handed over to the on-site enforcement team. The on-site enforcement team (10 members) plans to issue dispersal orders and file charges (fines up to 3 million KRW) immediately upon confirming violations of the assembly ban.

If necessary, joint crackdowns will be conducted with Gangnam and Suseo Police Stations.

The district office will distribute notices about the operation of this special inspection team to all businesses in the area and will also conduct frequent checks on compliance with quarantine rules such as mask-wearing.

Kim Seok-rae, Director of Disaster Safety Division, stated, "Under the Level 2 social distancing policy, gatherings hosted by special sales companies or activities that gather people for related purposes are strictly prohibited," and added, "Residents who visited locations where cluster infections occurred in September are strongly urged to undergo testing at the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center."
