A 285㎡ Complex Cultural Space with Books and Tea in Seongnae-dong... Featuring Cafeteria, Bookshelves with Over 2,500 Volumes, Relaxation Areas, and Book Curation Support
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is opening the first branch of the book cafe library "Dadokdadok (多讀茶篤)" (1419 Yangjae-daero, 2nd floor, Gangdong-gu) to provide residents with a space to enjoy a cup of tea and healing through reading in their daily lives. The opening ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on the 28th.
As its name suggests, "Dadokdadok" is a "Gangdong-style complex cultural space" where people connect and communicate through books and tea. Unlike traditional libraries with a solemn atmosphere, it is designed as a space where residents can relax, chat over tea, and stay comfortably even if they do not read books.
The first branch, opening this time, covers an area of 285.8㎡ and includes a cafeteria, wall bookshelf, reading and resting table spaces, private rooms for undisturbed rest, and seminar rooms for small group activities such as club meetings.
It houses about 2,500 books, including new releases from the past five years and steady sellers, and offers a "book curation" service recommending customized books on specific themes to propose a lifestyle that values life, healing, and happiness to residents.
Additionally, various programs such as author meetings, reading sessions, English book reading, and book discussions will be supported to create a warm space where neighbors can naturally interact.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, "Ahead of the era of 550,000 residents, we are focusing on establishing a community-based living infrastructure, the 'book cafe library,' to meet residents' cultural demands and improve quality of life. Starting with the first branch in Seongnae-dong, the second branch is being established at Gobundari Traditional Market in Cheonho-dong, and the third in Amsa-dong. By 2022, we plan to create 10 Dadokdadok locations throughout Gangdong-gu to support residents in enjoying happy leisure activities close to home."
The operating hours of Dadokdadok 1st branch are Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed on Mondays and public holidays). Operations will begin once the social distancing level 2 due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is lifted.
Meanwhile, the opening ceremony will be held in compliance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines for social distancing level 2, with fewer than 50 attendees.
