[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seven citizen heroes who devoted themselves at the fire site in Goheung, Jeonnam, and the flood site in Gurye received the 119 Hero Award.
The Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) announced on the 24th that seven citizen heroes were awarded at the 119 Hero Award ceremony held at the National Fire Agency on the 23rd.
The seven citizen heroes are Moon Gihak, Shin Boksu, and Lee Eunsoo, who were heroes at the Goheung fire site, and Ko Daegwon, Park Seongan, Son Seongmo, and Choi Bongseok, who were heroes at the Gurye flood site.
Moon Gihak, Shin Boksu, and Lee Eunsoo heard about a fire at a hospital in Goheung last July and used a moving ladder truck and an aerial work platform to rescue patients and nurses trapped inside the building.
Ko Daegwon, Park Seongan, Son Seongmo, and Choi Bongseok used boats they owned to rescue residents trapped when the Seomjin River flooded after a levee collapsed due to heavy rain in Gurye, Jeonnam, in August.
Fire Chief Ma Jaeyoon expressed gratitude for the self-sacrificing spirit of the heroes who showed courageous actions at the fire and flood sites to save their neighbors, saying, “We will continue to ensure that heroes who prioritize the safety of the residents receive the 119 Hero Award.”
Meanwhile, the 119 Hero Award, presented by the National Fire Agency Chief, has been awarded to 20 people since 2018.
