[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] BC Card announced on the 24th that it has established a ‘Financial Big Data Platform Lab’ in the Busan area and held an opening ceremony to successfully promote the government-led Digital New Deal project.

The opening ceremony of the ‘Busan Financial Big Data Platform Lab,’ held yesterday at the Busan International Finance Center, was attended by related officials including Lee Kang-hyuk, Vice President of BC Card, Park Sung-hoon, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Busan City, Moon Yong-sik, President of the National Information Society Agency, and Jang Deok-hyun, Head of Busan National University Headquarters.

The construction of the big data platform is a core task of the government-led Digital New Deal project (‘Data Dam’ project). In May last year, the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency hosted a public contest for the main institutions to promote the ‘Big Data Platform and Center Construction’ project in 10 fields, and BC Card was finally selected for the financial sector platform.

Through the newly established ‘Busan Financial Big Data Platform Lab,’ users in the Busan area can now receive the same usage environment and support as the Financial Big Data Platform Lab located in Seoul. BC Card plans to continuously expand regional-based platform labs to support startups and big data users located outside the metropolitan area.

Vice President Lee Kang-hyuk stated, “With the enforcement of the Data 3 Act, we are now able to provide high-quality information by utilizing various corporate data that could not be used before,” adding, “Through the ‘Big Data Platform Lab’ and others, we will contribute to the activation and innovation of the big data ecosystem so that users can utilize big data more diversely.”
