[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Hanwha Defense recently announced on the 24th that it has created a rest and cultural space for military personnel at the Armed Forces Capital Hospital located in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do.

This event was held in celebration of Armed Forces Day as part of Hanwha Defense's social contribution activities to establish rest and cultural spaces within military hospitals under the Armed Forces Medical Command, and it was the first time conducted at the Armed Forces Capital Hospital. The rest and cultural space within the hospital was named the "H Lounge," combining "Hanwha" and the hospital's alphabet.

The H Lounge is equipped with facilities for reading, media viewing, and performance appreciation so that soldiers staying for treatment of injuries and illnesses can rest comfortably.

Prior to the opening ceremony held the day before, Hanwha Defense and the Armed Forces Medical Command signed an agreement to improve military medical service environments, enhance the welfare of military personnel, and develop a patient-centered military medical system. Both parties pledged mutual cooperation to provide comprehensive support and collaboration for improving military hospital environments and to explore additional support measures for the mental and physical health and cultural enjoyment of military personnel.

Hanwha Defense was awarded a plaque of appreciation from the Armed Forces Capital Hospital in recognition of its support in creating this cultural space and its donation of negative pressure ward equipment for emergency response to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in March.

Lee Sung-soo, CEO of Hanwha Defense, stated, “The health of military personnel is directly linked to national security, so we proceeded with this project as a way to support them. Especially considering the current focus on health due to the spread of COVID-19, we plan to continuously discover and support social contribution activities that can contribute to the mental and physical health of soldiers.”
