[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] Twitter is planning to add a feature that allows users to record and send voice messages in Direct Messages (DM).

According to IT media The Verge and other foreign media on the 24th, Twitter is testing the feature to record and send voice messages in DMs in Brazil.

Alex Ackerman-Greenberg, Twitter DM Product Manager, told The Verge, "We know that people want more options to express themselves in Twitter conversations, whether public or private."

The voice message interface is as simple as voice tweets. There are play and pause buttons, and the sender's avatar blinks while the message is playing. Twitter plans to provide a 'Report Message' option to prevent abuse of voice DMs.

Earlier, Twitter announced in June that it would test the voice tweet feature. At that time, Twitter stated, "280 characters per tweet (140 characters for Korean) are not enough, and some conversational nuances are lost in the transformation process," adding, "We are testing new features to allow people to use Twitter in a more human way with their own voice."

Meanwhile, Facebook and Instagram already allow recording audio in DMs.
