[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 24th that it will hold the '2020 Energy Innovation Talent Forum' from 2 p.m. The forum will be held online with experts from academia and industry attending.

Marking its 10th year, this year's forum will be held under the theme of 'Jobs and Talent in the Era of the Green New Deal.' It seeks to explore directions for nurturing future energy talents.

Professor Kim Jinho of the Convergence Technology Interdisciplinary Department at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology will deliver the keynote speech on the topic of 'Energy Convergence Talent.'

He will emphasize the necessity and tasks of fostering 'disruptive convergence talents' to creatively solve challenging issues of the new energy society such as the climate crisis, non-face-to-face interactions, and the New Deal, focusing on actual cases.

The panel discussion will include Kim Guhwan, CEO of Gridwiz, and Gong Siyoung, Director at Hanwha Solutions (both from industry), Professor Park Jinho of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Yeungnam University, Professor Seong Taehyun of the Department of Electrical and Biological Engineering at Hanyang University (both from academia), and Park Hoon, Director of the Energy Technology Division at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (government).

They will discuss the energy talent profiles required by industry, university students' research interests, and the government's support directions for energy workforce development.

Meanwhile, a session was also held to share outstanding achievements created through the energy workforce development project and to commend the contributions made so far.

Awards were presented to two professors recognized for their contributions to nurturing excellent talents in key Green New Deal fields such as solar power, hydrogen and fuel cells, and greenhouse gases, as well as to ten student researchers who demonstrated outstanding research and industry-academia cooperation achievements.

Joo Youngjun, Director of the Energy Resources Office at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, said in his congratulatory speech, "Despite the prolonged youth employment difficulties caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) national crisis, Green New Deal jobs will continue to expand and invigorate the national economy."

He added, "The government will make policy efforts to expand the workforce base supporting the Green New Deal, including nurturing 'energy convergence talents' and 'industry demand-tailored talents' in preparation for future social changes."
