Efforts to Secure Special Grants for New Projects in 2021
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 23rd that it has been selected as a priority site for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 'Rapid Notification System for Vehicle Flooding Risk in Riverside Parking Lots' construction support project.
Among a total of 75 sites nationwide that applied through a demand survey in June, 28 sites including Geochang-gun were selected as priority sites.
During the on-site survey on the 21st, the appropriateness of installation locations for vehicle number recognition devices, electronic display boards, automatic voice notification facilities, additional project costs such as entrances to riverside parking lots, the number of parking spaces and project effectiveness were confirmed, as well as the willingness of the responsible department, the interest of local governments, and flood history.
The riverside parking lot in Geochang-eup has seen a total of 21 vehicles lost or flooded over the past 10 years.
This year alone, the riverside parking lot was flooded and closed four times, making it a high-risk disaster area urgently requiring the establishment of a rapid notification system for vehicle flooding risk. If finally selected for this construction support project, it will secure a special grant of 125 million KRW.
Gu In-mo, the mayor of Geochang-gun, stated, "This project is one of the representative tasks of the Korean New Deal, and we will strongly promote it accordingly," and added, "It is a necessary project to prevent vehicle flooding damage in riverside parking lots caused by typhoons and heavy rains and to protect the lives and property of residents, and we will do our best to secure the budget."
