Opening the Era of 200 Billion Won for Disaster Prevention Project Funds
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam, has opened the era of 200 billion KRW with its selection for the ‘Comprehensive Flood and Wind Disaster Living Zone Maintenance Project’ by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety for three consecutive years, followed by the confirmation of new projects for disaster risk improvement districts and steep slope collapse risk area maintenance in 2021.
This comprehensive flood and wind disaster living zone maintenance project is a key policy promoted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Hapcheon-gun achieved the remarkable feat of being the first in the nation to be selected for three consecutive years since it was chosen as one of five pilot districts nationwide in 2018.
In 2021, the county secured a total of 109.1 billion KRW (70.9 billion KRW in national and local government funds) for disaster prevention projects, including 35.8 billion KRW for the Samga Flood and Wind Disaster Living Zone Maintenance Project, 34.8 billion KRW for the Migok Natural Disaster Risk Improvement District Maintenance Project, 15 billion KRW for the Cheonghyeon Chronic Drought Disaster District Maintenance Project, 21 billion KRW for the Gahyeon Natural Disaster Risk Improvement District Maintenance Project, and 2.5 billion KRW for the Sinseong Steep Slope Collapse Risk Area Maintenance Project.
Accordingly, the county announced plans to secure part of the project budget in the second supplementary budget and to commence the project early by first conducting basic and detailed design services.
County Governor Moon Jun-hee stated, “We recognize that the safety of our residents is their welfare. We have been striving to secure national funds for flood prevention projects to protect the property and lives of our residents. We will work even harder to proactively respond to natural disasters caused by rapidly changing climate conditions such as typhoons and localized heavy rains and to create a safe environment.”
