Police Request Arrest Warrant for Senior Daegu Police Official in Food Company 'Planned Investigation' Allegation

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The National Police Agency has applied for an arrest warrant for a senior official of the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency in connection with allegations that the Daegu police conducted an excessive investigation into a local food company.

The Serious Crime Investigation Division of the National Police Agency announced on the 23rd that it recently applied for an arrest warrant for a police superintendent affiliated with the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency on charges including official secrets leakage.

The Daegu police have been accused of conducting an excessive investigation into Samhwa Food, a local fermented sauce manufacturer, and of conducting a "lenient investigation" toward false informants. Since June, the Serious Crime Investigation Division has been investigating by seizing related materials from the Daegu police and Seongseo Police Station.

Samhwa Food was under police investigation in February this year on suspicion of recycling returned fermented sauces, but controversy arose over the investigation as testimonies from insiders indicated that false reports were made under the direction of a former executive.
