Increase Rail Bike Marketability by Separating Steam Locomotive and Course
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] In Gokseong-gun, famous for its train village, the steam locomotive and rail bike serve as representative tourist attractions, but there were many restrictions on boarding times and the number of operations due to overlapping operation sections.
On the 23rd, Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that the operation section of the Seomjingang Rail Bike will be moved from Gajeong Station to Ijeong Station.
The steam locomotive operates from the train village, passing through Chimgok Station to Gajeong Station, while the Seomjingang Rail Bike operates from Chimgok Station to Gajeong Station.
Accordingly, the county relocated the rail bike operation section to separate the course from the steam locomotive, allowing the steam locomotive, which previously operated 5 times a day with time restrictions, to operate up to 7 times a day without time constraints caused by the steam locomotive.
Additionally, the connectivity between the steam locomotive and the rail bike has improved. In the past, the steam locomotive did not stop at Chimgok Station but passed through, so passengers could not get off midway to ride the rail bike.
Now, passengers can take the steam locomotive from the train village and get off at the terminal Gajeong Station to use the rail bike. A towing device is installed on the uphill section of the rail bike, allowing riders to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Seomjingang River without effort.
A county official said, “The rail bike relocation project is part of the creation of the Seomjingang waterfront tourist zone linked to the interior remodeling of the steam locomotive completed earlier this year. We will create various attractions and activities at each steam locomotive stop to develop it into a tourist destination that everyone can enjoy throughout all four seasons.”
Meanwhile, the new rail bike section from Gajeong Station to Ijeong Station is about 3 km round trip.
