[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] The Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office Chief announced on the 23rd that, in response to growing concerns over a collection crisis due to a surge in recyclable waste discharge during the Chuseok holiday, they conducted on-site inspections of the Jinhae-gu recyclable waste sorting center and the joint housing waste discharge sites in Uichang-gu, Changwon City.
The prolonged COVID-19 pandemic has increased contactless consumption and recyclable waste discharge, resulting in side effects such as an increase in waste requiring sorting and delays in collecting recyclable waste discharged from joint housing complexes, necessitating prompt countermeasures.
Accordingly, since July 2020, the Ministry of Environment has been operating the nationwide "Joint Housing Resource Management Helper" system from the first stage of waste discharge to ensure proper waste management. This system carries out tasks including ▲guidance and promotion of recyclable waste discharge in joint housing ▲proper separation and discharge management at collection sites ▲education for separation discharge managers in joint housing, among others.
Chief Lee Ho-jung stated, "The Resource Management Helper system is an emergency measure to respond to the COVID-19 era. Ultimately, it is time to recognize and practice the importance of proper recyclable waste discharge starting from households." He added, "We hope that local administrative units centered on the relevant local governments will actively utilize this system and strive to stabilize the waste discharge and collection system."
