[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] Jeong Cheong-rae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized Joo Ho-young, the floor leader, who defended the proposal to hold the October 3rd Gaecheonjeol rally at Gwanghwamun as a "drive-thru," saying it "effectively encourages (the rally)."

On the 22nd, Jeong posted on his Facebook, "How many people were anxious and harmed by the August 15th Liberation Day rally?" and made this remark.

Earlier that day, Floor Leader Joo said regarding former Future United Party (now People Power Party) lawmakers Kim Jin-tae and Min Kyung-wook's proposal to hold the Gaecheonjeol rally in a "drive-thru" format, "If it does not interfere with traffic or quarantine measures, isn't it their right?" and added, "We must judge whether the law permits it and whether it interferes with quarantine."

In response, Jeong said, "This is not something the floor leader of the main opposition party should say," and criticized, "Is it really their right, or is it Makgeolli?"

He continued, "Are you saying it's okay for the people to be at risk because of that right?" and questioned, "Is it so difficult to oppose and call for the withdrawal of any rally that threatens the lives and safety of the people?"

He added, "Those who insist on holding the rally are problematic, but those who say it is their right are also truly absurd."

Meanwhile, some conservative groups have announced rallies at Gwanghwamun on October 3rd, Gaecheonjeol, and October 9th, Hangeul Day.
