[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Scallions, which are indispensable in cooking, are now available as a snack.
Haitai Confectionery announced on the 23rd that it has launched 'Guun Daepa,' a scallion snack baked with hot air. It is a corn snack that captures the characteristics of the currently popular 'scallion baguette bread.'
Domestic scallions are saut?ed in butter and paired with condensed milk, giving off a fragrant and sweet scallion aroma. Unlike frying in oil, it is baked with hot air, which reduces the sharpness of the scallion flavor while enhancing its umami taste.
Real scallion pieces are embedded on the surface, releasing a subtle scallion scent as soon as the package is opened, and the scallion flavor becomes stronger as you chew. The crispy and savory corn snack offers a texture reminiscent of eating a 'scallion baguette,' which is another advantage.
A Haitai Confectionery representative said, "Since it preserves the flavor of scallions familiar to Korean tastes, we believe it will be well received in the market," adding, "We expect it to continue the popularity of our signature snack series, Guun Yangpa (Baked Onion)."
