Lee Jae-myung's 'Postpartum Care Cost Support Project' Expanded... 900,000 Additional Beneficiaries

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The support target for the 'Gyeonggi-do Postpartum Care Cost Support Project,' one of Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung's three major free welfare policies, will be significantly expanded.

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 23rd that starting from the 15th of next month, it will provide 500,000 KRW per newborn to all families giving birth in Gyeonggi Province, regardless of the length of residence.

To this end, the province amended the 'Gyeonggi-do Postpartum Care Cost Support Ordinance' on July 15, removing the previous selection criterion of 'residence in Gyeonggi-do for more than one year.'

In particular, in accordance with the 'Framework Act on Social Security,' the province pursued consultations with the Ministry of Health and Welfare regarding changes to the social security system, and on the 9th, the Ministry recognized the necessity to relax the residence period condition and expand support to all childbirth families.

As a result, a complete 'universal free welfare' system has been realized, providing 500,000 KRW in postpartum care costs per newborn to all families giving birth within the province without any conditions.

Applications can be made by visiting the local eup, myeon, or dong community service center at the time of birth registration without any prior application procedures. Postpartum care costs can be received as local currency (either paper or card) after qualification verification procedures.

A provincial official stated, "The expansion of this postpartum care cost support project is a measure to realize 'Gyeonggi-do, a good place to have children,' and it is expected that about 9,000 more newborn families will be able to receive support through this."

The postpartum care cost support project is an initiative promoted by the 7th Gyeonggi Province administration to alleviate the economic burden on childbirth families, protect the health of mothers and newborns, and overcome low birth rates.

The province started the postpartum care cost support project on January 1 of last year and has provided a total of 58.9 billion KRW in postpartum care costs to approximately 120,000 childbirth households by the end of July this year.
