Selected Complexes for Communal Living Project in Apartment Housing... Secured Total Project Budget of 80 Million Won
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) has selected a total of two apartment complexes, Mullae Lotte Castle Apartment and Singil Woosung 1st Apartment, as new participants in the ‘Seoul City Multi-family Housing Co-living Project’.
The ‘Multi-family Housing Co-living Project’ (hereafter referred to as Co-living) is a community activation project aimed at discovering inconveniences and issues experienced by residents living in multi-family housing such as apartments and villas, and finding solutions through communication and consultation.
Furthermore, it has the ultimate goal of establishing a sustainable economic community model capable of generating profits through resident self-help groups and business establishment.
The district was selected in August for the Seoul City Co-living Project competition and received a total project fund of 80 million KRW. It plans to promote the ‘Ssakssuri Cleaning Community’ project at Singil Woosung 1st Apartment and the ‘Creating a Happy Village for All’ project at Mullae-dong Xi Apartment.
To foster prior understanding and smooth cooperation among participating residents, the Yeongdeungpo Social Economy Network Social Cooperative (Chairman Kim Jeong-yeol) will act as an intermediary support organization, operating various programs in advance in connection with local social economy enterprises such as the Korean Art Psychology Counseling Social Cooperative (Chairman Kwon Ryeo-won).
The programs mainly consist of content reflecting social economy and community values, including ▲understanding social economy ▲fostering and activating resident meetings ▲structuring project execution.
The ‘Ssakssuri Cleaning Community’ project at Singil Woosung 1st Apartment is inspired by the surrounding environment, including climate deterioration such as fine dust and proximity to a four-lane road, and focuses on cleaning veranda windows. As residents’ interest in hygiene and quarantine has increased due to COVID-19, related programs will also be developed and implemented.
The ‘Creating a Happy Village for All’ project at Mullae Lotte Castle Apartment reflects the environment with many young dual-income couples and youth generation members, operating programs centered on activating neighbor communication such as markets using resident community facilities, children’s playgrounds, and garden making.
Last year, the district also conducted the Co-living project in two multi-family housing complexes: Yangpyeong Hyundai 6th Apartment and Yeongdeungpo Art Xi. Centered on the Yeongdeungpo Social Economy Network Social Cooperative, various social economy enterprises in different fields cooperated, holding multiple discussions and consultations, and operated projects considering the characteristics of each complex.
Yangpyeong Hyundai 6th Apartment, reflecting the characteristics of having an elementary school nearby and many elderly residents, conducted programs that various generations could enjoy together, such as healthcare, kimchi-making events, and night markets. Yeongdeungpo Art Xi complex, with many young residents, organized projects focused on childcare services and education, such as summer school and metal crafts, receiving great responses from residents.
After a one-year project period, Yangpyeong Hyundai 6th Apartment and Yeongdeungpo Xi Apartment have taken a step further toward providing sustainable services through social economy methods by discovering idle facilities within the multi-family housing and conducting programs desired by residents through the ‘Apartment Living Workshop Project’.
Chae Hyun-il, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “Although more than 60% of Seoul households live in multi-family housing, the community spirit among residents is gradually declining,” and added, “We expect the Multi-family Housing Co-living Project to contribute to revitalizing the virtuous economic cycle within complexes through the establishment of economic communities.”
