[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin] The prosecution investigating allegations of preferential employment involving the daughter of former Future United Party lawmaker Na Kyung-won has summoned and questioned an employee of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The Criminal Division 7 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Byung-seok) called a Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official as a witness for questioning on the 22nd.
The prosecution is reported to have confirmed facts related to the Ministry's audit results of the Special Olympics Korea (SOK), an organization under the Ministry once chaired by former lawmaker Na.
SOK is a non-profit organization supporting sports and cultural arts activities for people with developmental disabilities.
Earlier in March, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the ‘SOK Office and National Subsidy Audit Results,’ pointing out various inappropriate administrative practices and criticizing that Kim, the daughter of former lawmaker Na, acted as a director of SOK without the approval of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Subsequently, the civic group Minsheng Economy Research Institute filed a complaint with the prosecution, accusing former lawmaker Na of privatizing SOK.
