Wando-gun Creates Pleasant Neighborhood Environment with Cleaning Robots

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) announced on the 22nd that by piloting and introducing a 'multi-purpose road surface cleaning robot,' it has become possible to create a pleasant environment in areas vulnerable to cleaning such as back streets, alleys, commercial districts, traditional markets, and plazas.

This project was promoted due to the increasing demand from residents for a clean environment and the growing need to manage areas vulnerable to cleaning, such as densely populated residential areas and traditional markets where trash frequently occurs and where sanitation workers cannot reach.

To promote the project, Jeollanam-do allocated a total project cost of 300 million KRW under the supervision of the Korea Robot Industry Promotion Agency of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and Wando-eup was selected among 10 regions in the province.

The cleaning robot costs 30 million KRW per unit, with 70% funded by the national government and 30% by the provincial government.

The multi-purpose road surface cleaning robot applies the latest suction system and water spraying system to clean cigarette butts, flyers, fallen leaves, and deposits.

Additionally, it has the advantage of generating less noise and dust during cleaning operations, providing a pleasant working environment not only for pedestrians but also for sanitation workers.

It can also be used in back streets, sidewalks, parks, schools, and apartments where large cleaning vehicles have difficulty accessing.

The county plans to review additional introductions based on demand after verifying satisfaction and performance of the cleaning robot this year.
