KOICA Supports Underserved Groups in Seongnam City with Chuseok Food Supplies

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) delivered 200 sets of food supplies to 200 low-income vulnerable households struggling with social distancing due to the spread of COVID-19 ahead of Chuseok on the 22nd.

The delivery ceremony held at KOICA headquarters in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do was attended by Baek Sook-hee, Director of KOICA's Africa, Middle East, and Latin America Headquarters; Choi Young-mi, Deputy General Manager of KOICA's Operations Support Office; Seo Deok-seok, CEO of Open Welfare Association; and Jeong An-jin, Director of Seongnam-dong Welfare Center.

The food supplies donated by KOICA will be distributed to vulnerable groups such as single-parent families, foster families, and elderly living alone in the Seongnam-si area who are facing difficulties due to the spread of COVID-19, through the Seongnam Basic Food Bank, a sharing welfare business platform operated by the Open Welfare Association.

Baek Sook-hee, Director of KOICA, said, “We donated food supplies for Chuseok to protect vulnerable groups in Seongnam-si, safeguard the safety of the local community, and share the difficulties faced by the people. We will cooperate to overcome the national crisis caused by COVID-19 and take the lead in advancing Korean society into a more inclusive, united, and encouraging community.”

Currently, KOICA is providing space by opening its facilities as a residential treatment center for asymptomatic and mild COVID-19 patients in Seoul.
