Eunpyeong-gu Promotes SOC-Based Digital Competency Enhancement Education

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) will promote the 'Digital Competency Enhancement Education' from September, where any resident can acquire essential digital skills for daily life and employment-related knowledge at the Life SOC Education Centers.

This project was prepared to create a demand-centered digital education environment as daily life rapidly shifts to a contactless digital environment such as online education and remote work due to COVID-19.

Eunpyeong-gu has designated three locations?the Informatization Education Center as a hub center and two Life SOC Education Centers (City Welfare Center, Bulgwang 2-dong Public Library, etc.)?as Digital Competency Centers, assigning four instructors and supporters to operate the education programs.

The Digital Competency Centers offer courses progressing from digital basics that improve skills in smart devices, non-face-to-face video solutions, and SNS usage; to digital life skills such as ordering food via kiosks and using financial and public services frequently used in daily life; and to intermediate digital skills where participants can produce a certain level of output using digital devices and programs.

Additionally, the Digital Competency Centers operate a help desk to support residents in resolving difficulties encountered in daily digital usage.

Residents wishing to participate in the education can apply online through the Smart Seoul Portal.

In accordance with social distancing guidelines, the district plans to significantly reduce the number of participants per center or flexibly operate through methods such as 1:1 visits by instructors or non-face-to-face online education.

Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, stated, "This education will cover everything from basic competencies needed in daily life to employment-linked training. We hope many residents participate and equally enjoy the benefits of digital technology."
