Gwangju Gwangsan-gu Selected for 'Development Restriction Zone Resident Support' Project

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Samho) announced on the 22nd that it has secured a total of 5.7 billion KRW in national and city funds after being selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's '2021 Resident Support Project in Development Restriction Zones Contest.'

As a result, budgets for a total of four projects in the fields of 'Living Infrastructure Improvement Project' and 'Environment and Culture Project' were secured.

Gwangsan-gu plans to accelerate projects that resolve long-standing wishes of residents in the development restriction zones and support leisure activities.

Among the projects continuing until 2022, the 'Pyeongdong Bongjeong Village Access Road Expansion and Paving Construction' in the Living Infrastructure Improvement Project is attracting attention.

This project addresses the long-standing wishes of village residents and began design services last year. With the selection in this contest, securing 800 million KRW in national funds next year is expected to give momentum to the project’s progress.

The 'Sanmakje Surrounding Leisure Green Space Creation Project' in Imgok-dong, selected under the Environment and Culture Project, involves utilizing idle land around the reservoir to create walking trails and a little league baseball field.

Once the project is completed next year, the area, which had been designated as a development restriction zone, is expected to be transformed into a place for improving residents' living environment and promoting leisure activities.

Additionally, the 'National Leisure Eco-friendly Auto Camping Site Access Road Expansion and Paving' and 'Jisan Reservoir Landscape Creation' projects in Bonryang-dong were also selected in this contest.

Upon completion of these two projects, Jisan Reservoir and the auto camping site in Bonryang-dong are expected to be linked as a revitalized spot for citizens to recharge their vitality.

A Gwangsan-gu official stated, “We will prepare and promote a reasonable utilization plan for the development restriction zone that harmonizes nature and residents' lives well.”
