Award Presented to Police Officer Kim Taeseop by Daejeon City for Rescuing a Drowning Person During Honeymoon Provided by Daejeon City

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] A police officer who rescued a drowning person during his honeymoon was awarded a commendation plaque. The protagonist is Police Officer Kim Tae-seop (32, photo) of the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency.

The city of Daejeon announced on the 22nd that Mayor Heo Tae-jeong presented the ‘Righteous Citizen’ commendation plaque to Officer Kim.

According to the city, on the 1st, Officer Kim discovered Mr. A, who had lost consciousness and was swept away by waves at Seogdal Beach in Jungmun, Jeju Island, where he was visiting for his honeymoon, and immediately proceeded to rescue him without hesitation.

At the time, the local area was experiencing strong waves due to Typhoon Maysak, and there was a risk of casualties.

However, thanks to Officer Kim’s prompt rescue and his wife’s 119 emergency call, Mr. A, who had lost consciousness, was able to receive emergency treatment immediately after the rescue and was revived, according to reports.

He saved another person's life in a situation where he himself could have been in danger during his honeymoon.

Recognizing this fact, the city recently held the ‘Righteous Citizen Merit Review Committee’ and decided to award Officer Kim a commendation plaque, with Mayor Heo personally presenting the plaque.

Mayor Heo said, “I deeply appreciate Officer Kim’s courage and actions in actively risking his own safety to save a life,” and added, “I hope that righteous acts like those of Officer Kim will continue in our region, protecting and caring for one another.”

In response, Officer Kim said, “As a police officer who must protect and safeguard the people, I only did what was natural,” and added, “I will continue to do my best to ensure the safety of citizens.”
