[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Hite Jinro continues to support firefighters who dedicate themselves to the health of the nation.

On the 22nd, Hite Jinro announced that it will provide support to 17 people, including litigation fees for bereaved families of firefighters, emergency living expenses, and firefighter development scholarships for children of firefighters, to improve the treatment of firefighters.

The day before, Hite Jinro held a fund transfer ceremony for the families of firefighters at its Cheongdam-dong headquarters. A total of 13 people attended the event, including Hite Jinro CEO Kim In-gyu, officials from the Fire Agency, and bereaved families of firefighters.

Hite Jinro supports litigation costs such as attorney fees necessary for firefighters who made extreme choices due to work stress to be recognized as having died in the line of duty, as well as emergency living expenses. It also plans to provide firefighter development scholarships for children of fallen firefighters who dream of becoming firefighters.

Kang Hyun-gu, a child of a firefighter from Gyeongbuk who attended the ceremony, said, “Although I am going through difficult times, I want to grow up to be a cool and excellent firefighter like my father.”

Kim In-gyu, CEO of Hite Jinro, said, “We planned this project together with the Fire Agency to offer some help to firefighters who always work hard to protect the safety and lives of the people under harsh conditions. Based on our corporate philosophy of win-win management and mutual growth, we will spare no effort in providing multifaceted support for talents who dedicate themselves to society.”

Meanwhile, Hite Jinro signed a business agreement with the Fire Agency in 2018 to improve the treatment of firefighter families and raise public safety awareness. It has conducted support programs for firefighter families every year, including scholarships, consolation payments, and healing camps. This year, there were cases recognized as deaths in the line of duty among bereaved families, and in April, it supported equipment and training programs at the ‘Korea Fire Meister High School,’ a school nurturing future firefighters. It has also conducted fire safety campaigns in major cities during winter and water safety campaigns in summer. Going forward, it plans to carry out various support projects such as sponsoring forums to improve firefighter treatment.
