Launched as the Most Affordable New Form Factor Smartphone
"Expanding New Form Factor Experience Opportunities with Aggressive Pricing"
70% Discount Voucher on Screen Replacement Cost for October Buyers Provided
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] LG Electronics has set the price of its flagship smartphone, the LG Wing, at 1,098,900 KRW.
On the 22nd, LG Electronics announced that the LG Wing, priced as such, will be released domestically in early October through the three major mobile carriers and unlocked channels.
The price of the LG Wing is the lowest among new form factor smartphones released in the domestic market so far. Compared to the Galaxy Z Flip, which starts at 1.65 million KRW, it is more than 500,000 KRW cheaper. LG Electronics aims to expand its market share by pricing it competitively with flagship smartphones from rival companies. LG Electronics explained, "Our strategy is to offer an aggressive price so that many customers seeking change can experience the unique new form factor of the 'LG Wing.'"
The LG Wing features a 6.8-inch main screen and a 3.9-inch second screen, allowing users to rotate the main screen 90 degrees and use both screens simultaneously. Since the display accounts for a large portion of smartphone components, LG Electronics adopted an aggressive pricing strategy to remove unnecessary price bubbles and lower the entry barrier for consumers.
To allow more consumers to benefit from purchase advantages, LG Electronics boldly eliminated pre-order promotions. Instead, during October, LG Wing buyers will receive a discount voucher that offers a 70% discount on replacement costs if the main or second screen is damaged within two years.
The LG Wing can be used like a regular smartphone but allows multitasking in 'Swivel Mode' by rotating the main screen clockwise when needed. It is the world's first smartphone to apply the 'Gimbal Motion Camera' feature, enabling stable video recording.
Changmin Ma, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Electronics Korea Mobile Group, said, "The LG Wing is a product that adds a never-before-seen user experience called 'Swivel Mode' to the familiarity of existing smartphones. As the first product of the 'Explorer Project,' which focuses on evolved smartphone usability and discovering areas with growth potential, it will be the starting point for future smartphone experiences."
