[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] LG Electronics announced on the 22nd that it recently launched a new version of the ‘LG ThinQ’ app, which provides smart home services. The LG ThinQ app, used on smartphones, supports not only the control and management of home appliances but also related services, content, and mobile commerce. It can manage 28 types of appliances including TVs, refrigerators, air conditioners, and washing machines. LG Electronics explained that through the app, it continuously cares for customers throughout the entire period of product use by delivering values of safety, convenience, and enjoyment.
Significant Changes in UX (User Experience)
The LG ThinQ app has significantly revamped its UX (user experience) to provide customers with a more intuitive and convenient usage experience. Family members no longer need to individually register or set up the same product in the LG ThinQ app. Once one person registers a product and shares it with family members using the ‘Invite’ feature, all members can use it.
The LG ThinQ app continuously provides useful information to customers. It notifies users in advance about filter replacement timing for air purifiers and drum cleaning timing for washing machines, helping customers maintain their products more hygienically. If there is an issue with a product, the app identifies the cause on its own, informs the user of the problem, and suggests solutions.
The app suggests connecting to products nearby that can be registered.
The LG ThinQ app offers a function to preset the operation of multiple appliances to easily optimize the home environment. For example, if indoor air quality is poor, it can activate the air purifier and run the air conditioner’s air purification mode simultaneously by setting multiple appliances to operate together.
Additionally, the LG ThinQ app automatically controls appliances to maintain the home in an optimal state. It allows various customized settings such as turning on the air purifier or air conditioner before the customer returns home, or turning off the air conditioner and activating the robot vacuum cleaner when the customer leaves.
Support for Chatbot Service and Evolution of Store Function
The LG ThinQ app supports an AI-powered chatbot service. Customers can interact with the chatbot to receive product information, troubleshooting guidance, book service engineer visits, and inquire about consumable purchases. This enables faster problem resolution without needing to speak with a human agent, making it very useful.
The store function of the LG ThinQ app has also evolved. By using the subscription service feature, customers can automatically purchase necessary parts or consumables at regular intervals.
Previously, LG Electronics enhanced the usability of the LG ThinQ app through collaboration with Pulmuone Foods and CJ CheilJedang. Customers can simply scan the barcode on Pulmuone Foods’ ready meals using the LG ThinQ app, and the microwave oven automatically finds the optimal cooking method.
When customers scan the barcode on ‘Bibigo Pogibaechu Kimchi,’ the kimchi refrigerator recognizes the product and sets the most suitable temperature and time. Pulmuone Foods’ ready meals and CJ CheilJedang’s packaged kimchi can be purchased from the LG ThinQ app store.
LG Electronics plans to provide customized content that helps with product use, usage pattern analysis reports, and care solution service history management for three products?air purifiers, dryers, and water purifiers?within the LG ThinQ app. The range of products supporting these services will gradually expand.
Park Il-pyung, LG Electronics’ Chief Technology Officer (CTO), said, “The LG ThinQ app plays an important role as a platform, offering customers services and solutions that did not exist before, presenting a new lifestyle. We will continue to expand services linked to products so that customers can enjoy a safer and more convenient life through the LG ThinQ app.”
