[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A man in his 20s who lent a car to a teenage driver who killed two lovers while driving a Mustang without a license last year was sentenced to prison.
The Daejeon District Court Criminal Division 3 (Judge Gu Chang-mo) announced on the 21st that A (21), who was indicted for violating the Passenger Transport Service Act and aiding unlicensed driving, was sentenced to 1 year in prison with a 2-year probation.
B and C, who were also indicted, were each sentenced to 1 year and 4 months, and 1 year and 6 months in prison with 3 years probation, respectively.
A was prosecuted for lending the Mustang vehicle to D (17) in front of a club in Seo-gu, Daejeon, on February 10 last year, knowing that D was unlicensed, in exchange for 900,000 won per week.
The car A lent to D was rented under B's name and then subleased by C.
D was sentenced to 5 years in long-term imprisonment and 4 years in short-term imprisonment for crossing the center line and crashing onto the sidewalk on a road in Daejeon around 2:10 p.m. on the day he rented the car, killing two lovers in their 20s who were walking.
The court stated, "The defendants operated an unregistered car rental business for a considerable period, causing various problems such as difficulty in damage relief due to insufficient insurance coverage and increased accident risk due to poor management," and added, "We considered the means and motives of the crime, as well as various sentencing factors presented during the trial."
