Gold 9, Silver 13, Bronze 10... 32 Medal Winners
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] Gyeongsangbuk-do won the overall championship at the 55th National Skills Competition hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.
According to Gyeongbuk Province on the 21st, the Gyeongbuk Skills Competition team included 32 medalists with 9 gold, 13 silver, and 10 bronze medals, achieving the overall championship for the second time in the history of participation in the National Skills Competition and received the President's Cup. Gumi Electronics Technical High School was awarded the Silver Tower Institutional Citation.
This competition was held from the 14th to the 21st across seven venues in four regions centered on Gunsan, Jeonbuk Province, including Iksan, Wanju, and Jeonju, with 1,778 participants from 17 cities and provinces competing in 50 job categories. In Gyeongbuk Province, 139 participants from 20 specialized high schools competed in 47 job categories.
Gold medalists in the Skills Competition receive a prize of 12 million KRW, silver medalists 8 million KRW, and bronze medalists 4 million KRW. Additionally, according to the National Technical Qualifications Act, special benefits such as exemption from the practical test for industrial engineer certification are granted. In particular, gold and silver medalists will have the opportunity to participate in next year's National Representative Selection for the International Skills Olympics in Shanghai, China.
Governor Lee Cheol-woo encouraged, "The athletes who fully demonstrated their skills representing Gyeongsangbuk-do are the greatest achievement and pride of this competition," adding, "Thanks to the efforts of skilled technicians, Gyeongbuk's industrial technology competitiveness will be further strengthened and will lead the industry of the Republic of Korea."
