Recruitment of 15 Expanded-Dong Resident Autonomy Committee Members from September 22 to November 13
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) will expand the resident autonomy committees, which have been operating in 5 neighborhoods, to all 20 neighborhoods starting next year, and will recruit members to lead the resident autonomy committees by November 13.
The resident autonomy committee is a self-governing organization where residents directly decide and carry out various projects related to daily life.
The district plans to strengthen resident autonomy at the neighborhood level by expanding the pilot project of resident autonomy committees, which has been conducted since last year in 5 neighborhoods (Deungchon 2-dong, Hwagok 3·6-dong, Ujangsan-dong, Banghwa 3-dong), to all 20 neighborhoods by adding 15 more next year based on the operational results.
Accordingly, the district will recruit members to lead the '2021 Resident Autonomy Committees' in 15 neighborhoods from October 22 to November 13.
To become a member, it is mandatory to complete at least 6 hours of the Resident Autonomy School, which will be held starting in October.
Once appointed, members will serve a two-year term, during which they will collect opinions from local residents and solve regional issues through democratic decision-making.
The resident autonomy committees are composed of up to 50 members per neighborhood, and anyone aged 19 or older who is a resident of the neighborhood or belongs to a school, institution, organization, or workplace located in the neighborhood can apply.
Residents wishing to apply can fill out an application form and submit it by visiting the local community service center or by email to the person in charge.
More detailed information can be found on the Gangseo-gu Office website or each neighborhood community service center website, where application forms can also be downloaded.
The district will form a committee for managing the member selection by neighborhood and select resident autonomy committee members through a public lottery in November, completing the formation of the resident autonomy committees with an inauguration ceremony in December.
Mayor Noh Hyun-song said, “For resident autonomy to mature, the successful establishment and role fulfillment of the resident autonomy committees are essential,” and added, “We hope many residents will take interest and participate in the resident autonomy committees, where residents become the owners of their community, identify local issues, and find solutions.”
