Pre-Order Sale of Anbandegi Cabbage at All Stores Until the 27th
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] Lotte Mart announced on the 21st that it will sell highland cabbage harvested from the highland vegetable complex ‘Anbandegi’ at all stores until the 27th.
This year, damage to cabbage-producing areas increased due to prolonged monsoon rains and typhoon damage. Highland cabbage production per pyeong (3.3 square meters) also dropped by more than 30% due to increased rainfall and reduced sunlight, decreasing from the usual 9 heads per pyeong to 5-6 heads this year.
Prices have also surged. According to the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation’s Agricultural Products Distribution Information (KAMIS), as of the 18th, the price of top-grade cabbage was 11,600 KRW per head, a 111.5% increase from 5,485 KRW last year.
In response, Lotte Mart prepared 70 tons of Anbandegi cabbage in advance to stabilize agricultural product prices and decided to sell it at 7,980 KRW per head, about 30% cheaper than the market price. Anbandegi cabbage, grown in the high-altitude area near Daegwallyeong at 1,100 meters above sea level, is characterized by its dense interior and crisp texture, nurtured by cold winds.
Do Hyung-rae, Lotte Mart’s vegetable MD (Merchandiser), said, “We made efforts to secure quantities over a month to discover high-quality cabbage,” and added, “We hope this helps stabilize soaring agricultural product prices ahead of the holidays.”
