Registration for participation open until the 5th of next month
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Chonnam National University will hold a ‘Woorimal Grand Festival’ in a virtual space to celebrate the 574th Hangeul Day.
The Korean Language and Culture Center at Chonnam National University (Director Son Heeha, Professor of Korean Literature) announced on the 20th that it will hold the ‘6th Gwangju Citizens’ Woorimal Competition’ and the Korean language culture participation event ‘Woorimal Grand Festival’ online and non-face-to-face from 1 p.m. on the 9th of next month to commemorate Hangeul Day.
The ‘Gwangju Citizens’ Woorimal Competition’ will be headquartered in the auditorium on the 2nd floor of the Gwangju Museum of Art and conducted in a video conference space.
Since each participant competes in a format similar to ‘Challenge Golden Bell,’ participants must prepare writing tools (such as sketchbooks and board markers) in advance and connect via mobile phone or computer.
Pre-registration is open until the 5th of next month, and anyone residing in Gwangju Metropolitan City can participate.
The Korean Language Culture Grand Festival is divided into the ‘Woorimal Speaking Contest’ and the ‘Korean Language Culture Participation Event,’ and related videos or photos can be submitted on the Korean Language and Culture Center’s website.
Among the ‘Woorimal Speaking Contest,’ the ‘Foreigners’ Korean Speaking Contest’ involves foreign international students, marriage immigrants, and foreign workers sharing stories about their lives after coming to Korea.
The ‘Gwangju-Jeonnam Dialect Speaking Contest’ features citizens who love and enjoy using the local dialect, speaking on the theme ‘Introducing the Name of My Hometown.’
The ‘Korean Language Culture Participation Event’ has been changed from the cultural experience event previously held at the lawn square of the Gwangju Museum of Art to an online format. It is designed with various contents such as public language improvement activities, interesting place name stories, and finding good stores using pretty names, without regional restrictions for participants.
All participants in the Hangeul Day commemorative event will receive souvenirs, and winners will be awarded the Chonnam National University Korean Language and Culture Center Director’s Award along with prize money.
