In the Daegu area, she is the 189th COVID-19 fatality, occurring five days after a 91-year-old grandmother died on the 14th.
According to Daegu City, the 83-year-old grandmother, who had been hospitalized at Kyungpook National University Hospital, experienced a worsening of her condition on the 31st of last month and ultimately passed away around 12:30 a.m. on the 20th.
This grandmother was a patient admitted to Bobaeyo Nursing Hospital in Seo-gu, where the COVID-19 outbreak spread following the Gwanghwamun rally held in Seoul on the 15th of last month, and was transferred to Daegu Medical Center on the 20th of the same month.
Suffering from underlying conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and dementia, she tested negative in her first diagnostic test conducted on the 21st, but was confirmed positive in a retest five days later due to multiple cold symptoms. At that time, a chest X-ray showed signs of pneumonia, and her condition worsened at the end of last month, leading to her transfer to Kyungpook National University Hospital.
Meanwhile, as of 12:00 a.m. on the 20th, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the Daegu area was recorded at 7,124 (7,045 local infections, 79 imported cases) following two residents testing positive the previous day.
