Meeting with Deputy Mayor Park Seonghun to Discuss Key Issues Including Gijang Line and Jeonggwan Line and Request City Funding Support
On the 18th at 3 PM, Oh Gyuseok, the mayor of Busan's Gijang County, met with Park Seonghun, the Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Busan, to discuss local issues and request city funding support.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan’s Gijang-gun announced that on the 18th at 3 p.m., the Gijang-gun governor met with the Busan Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs to request city funding support to resolve Gijang-gun’s long-standing projects, including the early construction of the Gijang Line and Jeonggwan Line of the urban railway.
Governor Oh Gyu-seok visited the Busan Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs’ office and held a meeting with Deputy Mayor Park Seong-hoon.
Governor Oh requested support for key issues in Gijang-gun, including the early construction of the Gijang Line and Jeonggwan Line urban railways, the successful establishment of the Dongnam Radiation Medical and Science General Industrial Complex, and the creation of a detention pond park within Ilgwang New Town, as well as support for major city-funded subsidy projects.
The Gijang Line and Jeonggwan Line urban railways are representative priority projects of Gijang-gun, which has repeatedly visited government ministries over the years to emphasize the urgency and necessity of the project to advance the transportation infrastructure in the underserved areas of Gijang and Jeonggwan.
This was also proposed during a meeting with Koo Yoon-chul, Director of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, on the 16th. Recently, as residents have begun moving into Ilgwang New Town, surrounding traffic congestion has reached its peak, and with the establishment of various national projects and large-scale multi-use facilities, there is an urgent need for traffic dispersion measures.
Additionally, reflecting the special characteristics of the nuclear power plant-dense area, securing rapid evacuation means is also highly significant. Gijang-gun requested Busan City’s active cooperation to prioritize the Gijang Line and Jeonggwan Line as projects subject to preliminary feasibility studies.
The Dongnam Radiation Medical and Science General Industrial Complex is a major key project for Gijang-gun, and the county requested active support at the city level for the successful establishment of the industrial complex, as well as the prompt disbursement of the city’s share of infrastructure development charges for the industrial complex.
In addition, the county actively requested city funding support for a total of 22 major city-funded subsidy projects in Gijang-gun, including ▲creation of a detention pond park in Ilgwang New Town, ▲development of Jeonggwan Edu Park, ▲road construction between Daebyeon and Jukseong intersections, ▲road expansion around Wolnae Bridge, ▲road expansion connecting Jeonggwan General Industrial Complex, ▲creation of Gijang Ceramic Tourism Healing Village, ▲restoration of Gijang Eupseong Fortress, ▲development of Chilam Port Five-Sense Experience Fishing Village, ▲installation of a breakwater at Idong Port, ▲expansion of the Shinam Port storage yard, ▲reinforcement of the Jungdong Port breakwater, ▲installation of the Dong Breakwater at Dongbaek Port, ▲construction of Idong Seafood Direct Market, ▲creation of Gilcheon Neighborhood Park, ▲maintenance of safety facilities at Gutgeori Park, ▲creation (expansion) of Yongso Well-being Park, ▲construction of Ilgwang Library, ▲construction of a public parking lot at Ilgwang Beach, ▲support for operating expenses of emergency medical institutions in vulnerable areas, and ▲public building green remodeling projects.
Governor Oh Gyu-seok emphasized, “As the country’s largest nuclear power plant-dense area, for over 40 years, the residents have played the role of a supply gateway providing national electricity at the cost of their sacrifices. Over the past decades, residents have endured property damage and mental suffering while living alongside nuclear power plants.”
Governor Oh said, “Now it is time for Busan City and the central government to step up and repay this. This is exactly the urban railway Gijang Line and Jeonggwan Line.”
He also stressed, “The urban railway is the only large-scale transportation means that can enable rapid evacuation in the event of a nuclear emergency and is an essential project that must be constructed as a lifeline to protect the safety and lives of 170,000 Gijang residents and 3.4 million Busan citizens.”
