[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) announced on the 18th that the project "Wando Byeolbada Knowledge and Healing Children's Platform" was selected in the "2020 Urban Regeneration Recognition Project" contest.
The selected project will be implemented over three years with a total budget of 4 billion KRW (2.4 billion KRW national funds, 1.6 billion KRW local funds) invested in the former Wando Cultural Center.
The former Wando-gun Cultural Center had been used as a central space for various cultural and artistic activities for 30 years, but after relocating and rebuilding in the new town area in 2013, it remained vacant for seven years. Through this project selection, it will be transformed into a cultural hub space for children, youth, and residents.
With the vision of "Wando Byeolbada, Knowledge and Healing Children's Platform," the project aims to establish a knowledge and healing play platform for children, a safe cultural hub space for youth, a community cultural space for local residents, and build healing content for nighttime culture.
In addition to spaces for children and youth, plans include creating an unplugged outdoor performance hall, an outdoor rooftop wood terrace, and the Dream Gazing Starlight Park, providing cultural spaces where residents can heal.
Through this project, the old facility will be renovated to operate various experiential events and linked with cultural complex facilities, transforming the former Wando Cultural Center into a vibrant cultural space for children, youth, and local residents of our county.
Kim Il-seon, chairman of the Wando-eup Residents' Council, said, "I am glad that the former Wando Cultural Center can be developed into a healing space for local residents, and I look forward to seeing how it will change."
Governor Shin Woo-cheol of Wando-gun stated, "The selection of the Urban Regeneration Recognition Project is a valuable achievement made together with local residents," and added, "We will actively support revitalizing the old downtown of Wando-eup to create a pleasant and livable environment and restore the community spirit of local residents."
