[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Chang-won] Won Hee-ryong, Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, has ordered the activation of special administrative measures that impose strong penalties on visitors who do not comply with quarantine rules during the Chuseok holiday.
This measure is in response to the expectation that more than 300,000 people will visit Jeju during the upcoming Chuseok holiday.
It takes into account the fact that the Chuseok holiday effectively begins on the 26th and the serious situation where the nationwide daily confirmed COVID-19 cases have not dropped below three digits recently.
Jeju Province will further strengthen the quarantine system at Jeju International Airport and ports, which are the gateways to Jeju and the frontline of Jeju’s quarantine efforts.
Additionally, administrative measures requiring mandatory COVID-19 testing for visitors showing fever symptoms will be activated later, and under the principle of beneficiary pays, those with fever will be quarantined at their own expense.
In particular, from the 26th of this month to the 4th of next month, all visitors entering Jeju through airports and ports will be required to comply with quarantine rules.
If violations of these rules cause damage to the province’s COVID-19 response activities, Jeju will respond firmly and strongly by not only filing charges under the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act but also claiming compensation.
The two weeks following the Chuseok holiday (from the 5th to the 18th of next month) will be designated as a high-risk period, and related post-holiday quarantine management plans will be prepared.
Governor Won Hee-ryong said, “Although Chuseok is a joyful holiday when families scattered across the country gather, this year concerns about infection come first,” and added, “Please check on your family via video calls as much as possible, minimize your movements even if you come to Jeju, and strictly follow quarantine rules such as wearing a mask when moving.”
